Vallibel Power Erathna PLC holds 87.2% share in Country Energy Pvt Ltd. The company has constructed the Kiriwaneliya Hydro Power Project with an installed capacity of 4.65 MW, and the Denawaka Ganga Hydro Power Project with an installed capacity of 7.2 MW.

The Kiriwaneliya Hydro Power Project was constructed at a cost of Rs.815 million and it was commissioned in December 2011.

The Denawaka Ganga Hydro Power Project constructed at a cost of Rs.930 million and it was commissioned in February 2012.

Vallibel Power Erathna PLC contributed Rs.667 million as equity for the construction of these two projects.

Denawaka Ganga Project

The Denawaka Ganga small hydro power project is located at Durekkanda, 9 km from Ratnapura town in the Ratnapura Divisional secretariat in the district of Ratnapura. The plant is a run-of-the-river type and utilises the water flow of Denawaka Ganga, a main tributary of the Kalu Ganga.

The water catchment area of the project is estimated to be 218 square kilometres Change as in extent. The project design flow is 25 m3, the gross head is 34 metres, and the total length of the water-carrying concrete channel is 1.8 km. A 100m long penstock, power house and grid interconnection line are also being constructed. .

The plant installed capacity is 7.2 MW and annual energy generation is estimated at 25 GWh.

Kiriwaneliya Project

The Kiriwaneliya Project utilises the hydro potential of the Maskeli Oya and the flow of several other feeder streams, approximately 5km downstream of the Canyon Pond. The Project is located just below the Laxapana waterfall in the Ginigathhena Divisional Secretariat Division of the Nuwaraeliya District. The power house site can be reached from the Norton Bridge-Maskeliya main road.

The installed capacity of the project is 4.65 MW, with a potential for generating approximately 16 GWh of energy annually, which will be fed to the national grid at 33kV voltage level.

The total area of catchment is about 15 square kilometres which is entirely located in the wet zone and receives consistently high annual rainfall exceeding 4800 mm/year. The catchment area receives rainfall mainly from the southwest monsoon (May-October) and 25 years flow data reveal that the project will have 40% plant factor for the design flow of 3 m3/s
